Government Allocates UAH 518 Million to Protect State Systems from Russian Attacks

State Information Systems to Receive Enhanced Protection: UAH 518 Million for Backup Infrastructure

The Government of Ukraine has allocated more than half a billion hryvnias from the reserve fund to strengthen the protection of state information systems. The decision was made in response to the growing Russian attacks on the country’s digital infrastructure. The funds will be used to create geographically separated backup environments, expand cloud infrastructure, and purchase the necessary server equipment and software.

According to Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, these measures will help ensure faster restoration of critically important government systems and services if they are damaged as a result of shelling or cyberattacks. The new infrastructure will include backup and recovery systems, which will increase the state’s resilience to external threats.

A Response to Cyberwarfare: How Ukraine Is Strengthening Digital Security

Recently, Russia has significantly intensified strikes on Ukrainian data centers and telecommunications facilities, causing disruptions to internet access. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi previously noted that targeted attacks on digital and communications infrastructure pose a constant threat of losing connectivity. The government is preparing for the worst-case scenario, aiming to minimize the consequences for citizens and for the functioning of the state.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that mass attacks on data centers are Russia’s attempt to leave Ukrainians without access to the internet, communications, and essential services. This demonstrates the strategic direction of the enemy’s cyberwarfare, aimed at destabilizing society and hindering state governance.

Forecasts on Internet Costs and the Need for Backup Infrastructure

Experts predict a possible increase in the cost of home internet in Ukraine. According to digital technology consultant at eQualitie, Oleksandr Hlushchenko, the price could rise by UAH 50-100. These funds, he said, will go not only toward ensuring energy independence, but also toward building backup infrastructure. This will allow networks to keep operating even if individual sections are damaged. Thus, investments in state digital security will indirectly affect the availability of services for end users as well.
