Germany and NVIDIA to Develop Industrial AI: Physical AI Memorandum

Germany and NVIDIA Join Forces for an Industrial Leap in Artificial Intelligence

The German government and American technology giant NVIDIA have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country’s industrial sector. The main goal of the agreement is to combine Germany’s decades of experience in engineering and manufacturing with cutting-edge AI technologies, particularly in the field of “physical AI.” This partnership, formalized through a joint declaration of intent, is intended to make Germany one of the world’s leaders in industrial AI applications.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized the importance of this cooperation for maintaining the competitiveness of German industry, which relies heavily on small and medium-sized enterprises (Mittelstand). He called on companies to make greater use of their data to develop AI solutions, stressing that this would become a major advantage on the global stage. According to NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, AI will not replace human capital, but instead complement and strengthen the skills of German engineers, helping preserve and expand national expertise.

Development of Physical AI and AI Integration in Industry

As part of the agreement, advanced “physical AI” models will be developed. These technologies enable machines, robots and autonomous vehicles to perceive their physical environment, analyze situations and make appropriate decisions. Potential application areas include robotic systems, automated production lines and autonomous transport.

The joint initiative will bring together representatives from government, business, academia and industry associations through Germany’s Industry 4.0 platform. The partnership aims to systematically introduce industrial AI into widespread use and create a modern AI ecosystem in Europe. NVIDIA has committed to making its AI models available not only to large corporations, but also to small and medium-sized enterprises as well as research institutions.

NVIDIA Investments in German Startups

Alongside the announcement of government cooperation, NVIDIA said it intends to invest in four innovative German startups. These investments are part of the company’s broader investment plans totaling nearly $10 billion, aimed at supporting European companies, universities and research centers.

Among the companies that will receive NVIDIA investments are:

  • Agile Robots: A Munich-based developer of industrial robots, including the humanoid Agile ONE model, which is used in manufacturing, logistics and healthcare.
  • Avelios Medical: A Munich startup creating AI systems for hospitals that integrate into clinical and administrative processes to optimize the work of medical staff.
  • Mirelo: A company specializing in the development of AI models for generating sound effects, speech and music used in video production.
  • Reflex Aerospace: A Berlin startup focused on designing and manufacturing high-performance satellites ready for launch in approximately 12 months.

These investments underscore NVIDIA’s strategic focus on supporting innovative companies developing advanced technologies that can contribute to the growth of industrial AI and other promising sectors.
