Before the Fuyao Elevator appeared, the daily journey to school for these children became a real ordeal. They had to cover dozens of kilometres along steep, difficult trails and open mountain roads. Such a trip one way could take up to three hours, and more than six hours in total every day. It exhausted the children, limited their time for study and rest, and also created significant safety risks. Dangerous paths demanded constant attention and left no room for error. Because of this, some students were forced to stay overnight on school grounds, away from their families.

The launch of the 288-metre Fuyao glass elevator radically changed this situation. Now the journey from the lower part of the canyon to the school takes just 30 minutes. Together, these two monumental elevators form a unique complex that has become a true landmark of the region. The system works so that passengers first reach the lower station by bus, then take an impressive ride on the glass elevators along the canyon wall, and finish their journey using a cable car.

The Fuyao elevator cabin itself is a marvel of modern technology and design. It can carry up to 81 passengers, three times more than previous similar elevators. Such capacity makes it possible to transport large numbers of people efficiently. The elevator moves at a speed of 5 metres per second, allowing the ascent to the upper level to take about 50 seconds. In total, both elevators can carry up to 1,200 passengers per hour, making them not only a convenient means of transport but also an important part of the tourism infrastructure.

Ningbo Hongda Elevator, the company responsible for its creation, faced a number of challenges. Limited space on the cliff, high humidity, and frequent fog created difficult working conditions. The need for regular inspections of the steel structure and ensuring its durability required special attention.

Safety was a priority at every stage. The elevator system is equipped with backup power sources and additional equipment, ensuring uninterrupted operation even in emergency situations. Before the official opening, a series of thorough independent inspections were carried out to confirm the structure’s reliability and safety.

The impact of the Fuyao Elevator’s launch is already being felt. After its opening, the daily number of visitors to the tourist site increased from about 4,000 to 15,000 people. Such a significant rise in passenger traffic not only supports the development of local tourism but also creates new jobs, helping the region’s economic growth. Shorter queues and waiting times also make the tourist experience more comfortable.
