Technology Is Becoming the Standard: How BETON Is Looking for a Path to a Unique Advantage

Kyiv – In the conditions of rapid technological development, having innovative solutions in a product no longer guarantees its exclusivity on the market. Companies seeking to remain competitive are forced to look for new ways to achieve a real advantage. This opinion was voiced by Roman Balashov, who shared BETON’s experience, an online system for organizing and running gambling games.

The key takeaway is that technological solutions that once were a product’s calling card eventually become its basic standard. This applies, in particular, to tools for fast user verification. If a few years ago the ability to complete the process in two minutes was considered a significant advantage, today it is already an expected level of service.

From a Technological Foundation to a Unique Experience

“Products in our industry are not created from scratch by one person,” says Roman Balashov. The BETON team, like most gambling operators, started with a ready-made technological foundation developed by an external partner. This made it possible to launch the product quickly, but real development and the formation of brand uniqueness happen on top of this foundation.

An example of technology that has become an industry standard is fast verification. The BETON system uses solutions from KYCaid, including automated document recognition and biometric matching. Not long ago, these tools were available only to major players. Today they are a necessary condition for being present in the market, but they are no longer a source of significant competitive advantage.

“There is a temptation to invest resources in improving something that has already reached standard level, treating every such update as progress,” Balashov explains. However, such work only keeps the product at the level of market expectations, but does not take it beyond them.

Where the Real Advantage Hides: Beyond the Code

The real value of a product, according to the expert, lies not in the technological component, which becomes publicly available infrastructure, but in what the team builds on top of it. This includes the tone of communication with the audience, user experience, and the company’s internal standards. These aspects are defined solely by the development team and are responsible for the brand’s future.

“Our own expertise lives where the ready-made solution ends,” Balashov emphasizes. This is reflected in the company’s attitude toward people — both customers and the wider community. It is this attitude, expressed through real actions beyond the technical side of the product, that makes a company unique and prevents others from replicating it.

For example, BETON’s attitude toward sports and the community around it does not appear in release notes or documentation. It is difficult to copy because it is based on real actions that demonstrate the company’s willingness to support people and take responsibility for them.

As a result, the reliability, speed, and quality of the product remain mandatory conditions, but they no longer convert into an advantage. The main work shifts toward what the team creates on top of the available foundation, and for whom it does so. This level will determine whether the product remains noticeable when technological parity reaches the market.
